About AI Training And Visual Data Annotation

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Contributors prepare and review examples that teach models to recognize patterns, interpret visual information, and produce more useful results.

In this role, your design expertise will help structure how AI systems interpret composition across print, digital, and motion media. Precise descriptions of typography, hierarchy, geometry, framing, movement, and visual flow can improve the quality of training data used to develop advanced models.

  • Apply professional design judgment to AI training data
  • Work with visual assets across editorial, poster, marketing, and motion formats
  • Contribute to datasets that help models understand design systems and composition

The Editorial, Poster And Marketing Layout Designer Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking an Editorial, Poster and Marketing Layout Designer to analyze and annotate visual design materials. You will deconstruct completed designs into compositional layers, document their visual systems, and create structured metadata using precise design terminology.

The role combines advanced knowledge of typography, color, layout, and visual hierarchy with meticulous written documentation. You will also review short video clips, describing cinematography, composition, framing, movement, and visual flow.

  • Role type: Contractor and part-time
  • Experience level listed for the project: Entry level
  • Workload: 20+ hours per week
  • Compensation: $20-$50 USD per hour
  • Location: Worldwide and fully remote

What You'll Do

You will use established visual and design vocabulary to create consistent annotations and structured content. You will also help improve the annotation framework by identifying unclear cases and documenting schema gaps for project leads and quality control.

  • Annotate editorial, poster, and marketing design assets
  • Review short video clips and describe cinematography, composition, framing, movement, and visual flow
  • Deconstruct designs into compositional layers
  • Populate structured metadata for hierarchy, geometry, style, and typographic systems
  • Create exemplar annotations that establish quality benchmarks for the dataset
  • Identify ambiguous cases, missing categories, and schema edge cases
  • Document findings to support guideline improvements
  • Maintain alignment with project leads and quality control as frameworks evolve
  • Use Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or comparable tools to evaluate and structure layered design files

Requirements And Preferred Background

The strongest candidates bring substantial design experience and a portfolio that demonstrates advanced visual judgment. Professional work or a comparable portfolio may demonstrate the required background.

  • Three to five or more years of experience in graphic design, visual or brand design, layout, print, editorial design, or art direction
  • Advanced typography, color, layout, and visual hierarchy skills across editorial, poster, or marketing design
  • Expert-level proficiency with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or equivalent design platforms
  • Ability to deconstruct visual compositions and explain them with precise design and cinematography terminology
  • Strong written English for consistent annotations and structured documentation
  • Professional experience or a portfolio demonstrating relevant graphic, editorial, print, brand, motion, or art direction work
  • Motion design, video editing, cinematography, or art direction experience is especially relevant to short video review and quality benchmarking
  • A bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Fine Arts, or a comparable professional portfolio is appropriate
