About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people starting and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect skilled contributors with specialized, remote projects that help shape how modern AI systems learn and behave.

We focus on building durable freelance careers: create a profile, apply in minutes, and grow into higher-paying, domain-specialist work while staying fully remote and flexible.

About AI training work

AI training (data labeling / human feedback) is the human work behind reliable, safe, and accurate AI systems. Contributors annotate, evaluate, and correct model outputs so models learn from real-world expertise.

This role focuses on reviewing technical text and AI-generated answers in chemical engineering — a high-impact way to steer how engineering knowledge is represented by AI.

The role

OpenTrain is hiring a Chemical Engineering AI Expert to review, evaluate, and improve AI-generated and written technical content in chemical engineering contexts. This is a contract, part-time position with a remote schedule.

You will provide domain-correct assessments, answer technical questions, identify authoritative references, and share practical insight about tools and standards used in the field.

What you'll do

  • Review and evaluate written content and AI-generated responses for technical accuracy and clarity in chemical engineering domains.
  • Answer domain-specific questions with clear, well-reasoned feedback based on professional experience.
  • Identify and recommend useful reference material relevant to the topic at hand.
  • Share practical insight into tools, workflows, and standards used by practicing chemical engineers.
  • Collaborate with a small group of subject-matter experts across different fields to refine guidance and QA criteria.

Requirements

You must meet all of the required qualifications listed below. We will verify credentials and professional experience.

  • Degree-qualified chemical engineer with a US Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 2+ years of professional chemical engineering experience (process design, process safety, or plant operations).
  • Familiarity with process safety standards such as OSHA PSM and API.
  • Experience with process simulation or engineering tools such as Aspen, MATLAB, or similar software.
  • Professional working English and reliable availability for the expected part-time commitment (see Compensation & Schedule).
  • Ability to review AI-generated technical content and give clear, well-reasoned feedback grounded in practice and standards.

Who should apply

This opportunity is ideal for licensed chemical engineers who want to apply their expertise remotely to shape AI behavior and technical accuracy. If you enjoy mentoring, clarifying engineering reasoning in writing, and working part-time on domain-focused quality work, apply.

We welcome engineers with experience in process safety, simulation, plant operations, or process design who can cite concrete workflows, standards, and references when evaluating content.

Compensation, schedule, and how it works

Pay: $65–$90 USD per hour (PAY_PER_HOUR). Employment: contractor, part-time. Expected time commitment: 20+ hours per week. Work is fully remote and must be performed from the United States.

Tasks are completed using browser-based tools and written reviews; job data is text-based (evaluation/rating and question-answering). You will work with OpenTrain AI under a contractor arrangement and be paid per hour at the stated rate.

To apply, create or sign in to your OpenTrain profile, submit your credentials (PE license and experience summary), and complete any short qualification checks the project requires. We will contact qualified applicants with next steps.
