OpenTrain is recruiting a Building Code Plans Examiner to support AI training projects by converting real-world building code plan-review expertise into accurate evaluations and clear written summaries. This role focuses on construction plan review and permit analysis for Florida jurisdictions, with particular relevance to South Florida municipalities.

The Role

This is a contractor, part-time role (20+ hours/week) open to U.S.-based candidates with strong Florida building-code knowledge. Work is document-focused: you will review plans and produce evaluation ratings and text summaries used to train and validate construction compliance models.

What You'll Do

  • Review architectural, structural, and permit documents against the Florida Building Code and local jurisdictional standards.

  • Provide clear, accessible explanations of technical requirements to non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate strong, practical knowledge of building code plan review and permit evaluation and be able to produce detailed, accurate documentation and explanations. This role demands careful attention to detail and the ability to translate code interpretations into concise written findings.

Helpful Background
