About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the centralized platform where people start and grow careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect freelancers with projects that teach AI systems how to understand and generate creative work, and we help contributors build a unified portfolio that shows their experience across projects.

Why AI training work matters (and why it fits creatives)

AI training is the human side of building intelligent systems: people create, review, and rate examples that models learn from. For motion designers and VFX artists, this means shaping how creative AI tools interpret timing, composition, animation principles, and visual effects.

These projects are remote, flexible, and frequently part-time, letting experienced creatives apply their workflow knowledge to real-world datasets and influence the next generation of media tools.

The role

We are recruiting an Adobe After Effects specialist to work as a contractor on creative AI training projects. You will produce and evaluate motion-graphics video, document workflows, and deliver clear, actionable feedback that helps build high-quality datasets and model evaluations.

Note on experience level: the project metadata lists this as entry level, but the role explicitly requires mid-level After Effects expertise and a professional portfolio—please read the requirements carefully.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours/week
  • Work location: Remote, worldwide
  • Data type: Video; labeling tasks include evaluation/rating and text-generation guidance
  • Pay: Hourly, $21–$70 per hour (top rate $70/hr)

What you'll do

You will combine production work with evaluative and documentation tasks to support AI training and dataset development. The focus blends practical motion-graphics craft with clear critique and structured outputs suitable for model training.

  • Create high-quality, dynamic video projects in Adobe After Effects.
  • Review and critique motion-graphics project files and renders for technical and creative quality.
  • Explain creative and technical decisions in clear written and verbal detail for dataset annotations and reviewer instructions.
  • Break down animation and VFX processes into documentation, tutorials, or annotation guidelines.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to refine outputs and ensure consistency across deliverables.
  • Assess real-world use cases to help build datasets that reflect industry-standard motion design practices.

Requirements

You must demonstrate the skills and experience listed below. We will review portfolios and examples of professional work as part of the selection process.

  • Mid-level expertise in Adobe After Effects (required).
  • A robust portfolio of professional motion-graphics or visual effects work (required).
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite—animation, compositing, and rendering workflows.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear feedback and documentation.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for consistent evaluations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities remotely.

Helpful background (not required)

These qualifications make a candidate especially well aligned with the project, but they are supplemental.

  • Experience collaborating on AI or machine-learning projects in creative or media contexts.
  • Familiarity with After Effects scripting, expressions, or JavaScript.
  • Experience creating educational materials, tutorials, or training resources for motion-graphics professionals.

How it works & how to apply

This is a contractor role managed through OpenTrain. Contributors choose hours and complete tasks remotely; typical assignments include producing example videos, annotating outputs, and writing evaluation notes or instruction text for dataset use.

To apply, create an OpenTrain account, include your portfolio links and a short note about relevant After Effects projects, and indicate your availability for 20+ hours/week. Applications are reviewed for portfolio quality, communication clarity, and demonstrated After Effects skill.

  • Languages required: English (en).
  • (project-specific tools may be provided).
  • Label types: Evaluation/Rating and Text Generation guidance.
