About AI Training in Drug Discovery

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts review source material, classify information, evaluate model outputs, and provide feedback that helps advanced systems learn how to support real-world scientific work.

In this project, your preclinical drug development experience will help shape datasets and quality standards for AI models focused on chemistry and drug discovery.

  • Contribute to cutting-edge AI development
  • Apply practical scientific judgment to model training
  • Flexible remote work that can fit around other commitments

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Preclinical R&D Expert with direct experience in ADC and/or bispecific or multispecific antibody programs. You will review and annotate technical materials, real-world R&D data, and model outputs while advising on scientific decisions and trade-offs.

This is an ongoing, part-time engagement for an experienced industry researcher. The role description calls for roughly 10 hours per week, while the listed time requirement is 20+ hours per week; discuss your availability during the application process.

  • Pay: $60 to $100 per hour
  • Engagement: Contractor and part time
  • Work arrangement: Remote and worldwide
  • Working language: English

What You'll Do

You will bring hands-on, non-administrative preclinical R&D judgment to scientific data annotation and AI evaluation. The work combines structured labeling with expert discussions about how drug programs are designed, optimized, and advanced.

  • Review technical materials and real-world R&D data across ADC and/or bispecific programs
  • Label, classify, and annotate scientific data and model outputs
  • Assess target and modality selection, optimization decisions, trade-offs, and risks
  • Provide expert perspective on important scientific and development decisions
  • Help define structure and quality standards for the dataset pipeline
  • Participate in expert discussions, interviews, and research engagements

Required Experience

This role requires substantial industry experience in a core preclinical R&D function. Candidates should have worked at a company that develops its own drug assets and has taken programs to the clinic, rather than working only in an administrative or service capacity.

  • 5+ years of relevant industry R&D experience
  • Hands-on experience with ADC and/or bispecific or multispecific antibody programs
  • Experience taking drug programs from the bench to the clinic
  • Core-function experience in discovery biology, medicinal chemistry, protein or antibody engineering, computational R&D, in vivo or translational research, pharmacology or PK-PD, toxicology, or CMC/formulation
  • Ability to label, classify, and annotate scientific data for AI training
  • Comfort providing expert perspective on scientific decisions and trade-offs

Preferred and Helpful Background

Experience taking a program through lead optimization or IND-enabling and preclinical development is preferred. Background at a mid-sized, emerging, or resource-constrained biotechnology company is also preferred, ideally outside the top 20 pharmaceutical companies.

Previous data annotation or AI training experience is helpful but not required.

  • Lead optimization experience
  • IND-enabling or preclinical development experience
  • Emerging or mid-sized biotech experience
  • Experience working with limited resources and making development trade-offs
  • Prior scientific data annotation or AI training experience is a plus

Who Should Not Apply

This opportunity is designed for hands-on preclinical R&D professionals working directly on proprietary drug programs. It is not intended for candidates whose experience is limited to the areas below.

  • Mainly CRO or CDMO services
  • Academic-only research
  • QC or analytical-only work
  • Clinical-development-only work
  • Diagnostics
  • Regulatory or medical writing
